Anirudh's Personal and Tech Space.. Watch out!!!

2 States, Good but not great

2 States Cover
I just finished reading chetan bhagat’s 2 States – Story of my marriage, i must admit it started on a pretty high note but it ended in a typical fashion and had a plot which seemed as if the author has run out of ideas..

Most of the similes and metaphors used could be traced back to his previous works, like his experience in bed with ananya, or the ways he felt for her.. Even i could find traces of Alok’s mother from FPS when he mentioned his mother’s tantrums, when she expresses her disappointment.. However i do not want it to be a rant and hate post for an author who pretty much got me glued to my seat till i finished the book..

People this book is worth a light reading, which does try to convey the message of accepting intercaste marriages.. My sister had one too, and i am in support of it however i have a strong point against it.. That being, if you read the book you will understand how much agony the girl actually has to go through as she’s the one who gets to a new home and not the guy, and reason i feel parents oppose intercaste marriages is the very fact that the difference in culture. So it comes down to the couple as how do they want to sort out those issues, usually the bond of love makes people accept all compromises, but sadly that becomes the bone of contention as well.. Personally i prefer to marry someone from my own culture as i don’t want my spouse to have a culture shock or uneasiness in settling down in her new home..

Chetan, don’t stop writing, each book of yours shows estranged relationship between father and son, seems there is real pain beneath.. I am looking for a book which celebrates the father son relationship at a mature level.
