A memorable year to remember
Tonight as the clock’s hour hands meets number 12, it will turn the date to 12th Nov which marks the end of my 22 years of existence on planet earth. I feel that birthdays are the real New Year’s day, cos one same day few years ago i wasn’t in this world before the very date. As a ritual i take time to review the whole year which went by on my birthday, so here it goes.
The Highlights
- I Graduated and became an Engineer, that too Computer Science!!!!!
7th Oct, 2009 – Ettimadai, Coimbatore. I climbed the dais to collect the coveted degree certificate, which marked an end to 4 wonderful years of my life where i became an engineer, lived most of the unforgettable memories, got a job, found love and discovered my self. It was a perfect end to a perfect start.
- Internship @ Microsoft, Hyderabad!!!!
27th Jan – 12th June 2009, My Dream Company. Boy what a time it was. It felt great to hear the sound of your fingers typing on the keyboard in the 2AM silence in your office, flaunting the Microsoft Tag, the stipend and night cabs. My Team was awesome, my manager and mentor, i made some damn good friends, endless fun at TT and pool table and workouts at gym, the parties and appreciation for work, and my project it was a real beauty. Hyderabad city is a place to fall in love with and i did fall in love there (with the place
- Experienced 3 first Salary Moments
from the stipend at Microsoft to my Dual jobs here at Jammu, i was amongst the lucky few to cherish that feeling thrice. It’s damn good feeling and i pray it comes in everyone’s life and retains it’s charm for years to come.
- Driving 2000+ Kms with My Car!!
I was right. Driving is my passion, the sound of engine’s throttle, the thrust at high speeds, listening to your favourite music at 80 KMPH at 11PM in night, meandering through traffic, showing your frustration by honking and getting other driver’s frustration, holding your nerves at 120KMPH, banging the car on the garage wall, taking your parents on a drive for weekend, it’s worth having a car and loving it..
- Longest ever stay with parents @ home (5 Months), perhaps the best time which will never come back
Ever since i left home after my 12th class, even during college days i used to get hardly 20-25 days to be at home. However this time i had packed my bags with the thought of spending 3+ months at home, and they just vanished! It was only yesterday that i was planning my trip to home and today i am planning my trip to leave home. The dining table is our family’s center stage, i sit between my parents and we talk for hours. Expression of pride gleaming on their face when i got my first salary here, sigh of relief when i recovered from fever, moment of pride when i got my offer letter and DOJ, sense of achievement when i became an engineer, feeling of comfort when i drive them around in the car, and thought of being a perfect parent when i express my thoughts how grateful i am to have them as my parents, it’s worth being at home!
- Became a professional web developer, now i can do it in ASP or PHP or BOTH!!
My part time work here involved in developing solutions in .NET, however one look at a code in PHP (when i didn’t know abc of it) and a tiny fix in it, made my work focus into developing applications in PHP to deliver to customers. Jammu is new in software but the demands from customers are challenging. I had a great time at learning PHP, integrating it with MySQL, discovering the Magic of Javascript and AJAX, the nuisances involved in POST and GET Methods, finding open source code and tweaking it to make it as my own solution, endless hours of discussions and reading on stackoverflow.com, the sense of achievement whenever my boss used to say perfect, or that Aha moment when i discovered a simple yet elegant piece of code, the expression on people’s face when i say i work for microsoft, and the satisified customer, I loved my every minute spent on it.
- Realized my dream of teaching
My other parttime work involved being an instructor for Windows Basics, PC Hardware, C, C++, VB, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Internet Basics, Database and Computers in general. I longed to be a teacher and it was perfect ground for me to launch my self. Our institute grew from 2 regular students to 10 regular students, the happiness on my student’s face after mastering the keyboard shortcuts, or the wonder people used to show after learning how the computer actually works, the fact that my students says he turned from a backbencher in c++ classes to a class topper, the very reason that people want to learn from me because i teach in a very nice way, was enough for me to imbibe those memories deep in my heart.
- Sister relocating to USA
I was a moment of pride and sadness together, when my sister turned her back and went inside the IGI Airport Terminal with my Brother in Law. She now has the distinction of being the first in our family of 4 to fly overseas. I remember brining her from bangalore all the way to jammu with 18 luggage items, paying 1000 rupees each at 4 different railway stations to coolies, fighting with the taxi guys for fare reduction, finally getting her home, the preparation and packing for USA, daily measurement of suitcase sizes, last moment weighing of luggage, listening her voice over ISD, and the feeling of telling everyone in the world “MY sister is in USA”! Priceless
- Embarked on the journey of professional life
I reached home unemployed in june after having a short stint at corporate world. With the confidence in mind and hope of joining back soon, there was contentment in my heart. But as days progressed and i started my work, i realized it is hard to maintain balance between work and personal life, i just didn’t find time for any thing else apart from work, i cut down my working hours with computer at home, so that i could spend time with my parents, but thanks to flexible hours i was able to commit myself professionally and feel i am ready to face the big corporate world out there with full confidence now.
