Summer Vacations of 2008 – Part I
The summer of 2008 was indeed a special one for me. It saw some of the most important events which’ d only happen once in my life time! I got a job offer, rather i should be saying offers! My sister got married, i started a website, learnt a new language (python), most important i finally got to figure out what i want out of my life! The whole summer was so much fun that i couldn’t refrain myself from writing about it.
My vacations started on 7th of may with the exam euphoria ending on the previous day. Incidentally it was the same day when didi got married. So the rush hour had already begun. My exam finish at 4.30 PM on 6th and i had to be in Shimla on 7th morning! Kochi to Shimla in less than 12 hours. The planning had started a week before when i booked my flight tickets to new delhi. Thanks to the guy who helped me book a late night flight connecting via mumbai, who suggested me booking both jet airways as he said that connecting flights of same airlines can wait for their customers in case of delays. the flight to mumbai was at 8.00 pm on 6th and as i said earlier, i had less than 3 hours to reach the airport from my college. So it was really like rush hour where i had to finish my exam in 2 hours with lightning speed (my UNIX teacher, later commented that it was hard to decrypt my handwriting), 3.30 i caught a taxi along with my friend j_hari and made a dash to the airport. from there on amidst traffic and blocks we somehow reached in time, and i got my flight.
The flight was peaceful with not so gorgeous (old looking) hostesses and surprisingly 2 hosts too! but as luck would have it it delayed due to rainstorm on the way. i ended up asking the crew about the delay and my connecting flight and since it was the same carrier they said not to worry and would take care of it. As soon as we touched down, my name was announced and i was taken to my connecting flight to delhi. the delhi flight was peaceful, i slept like a dog and we touched down at 1am. Welcome 7th may 2008.
As it was my sisters wedding i was given the responsibility to receive the baraaatis (there were 4 of them, my jiju’s friends from bangalore). also my cousin nakshatra was coming down from bangalore, so we all met and i took them in a taxi to shimla. we were in an innova which was screening om shanti om, we had awesome food at the dhaba on NH-1, (Grand Truck Road), i must say the roads have become really nice, 4 laned, straight drive! Any ways all of us slept and woke up when we touched solan (45 kms from shimla). mountainous drive had started churning the masala inside the baraatis, so we stopped for a while and then continued. Finally after reaching to the destination at around 10.00 AM, i completed my fastest ever journey of over 3500 kms in less than 15 hours! hope it wasn’t boring…
